The Zoo and not much else

We've been very busy in the last couple of weeks, but not doing much of interest. We still haven't bought a car but we have an excellent dirt cheap rental - the Ford Aspire (so called, because it aspires to be a car when it grows up.)

You should see the way the California sun shines off the many undulations in the panels left by previous renters. It really is a thing of beauty.

Tamsin had a couple of interviews, one of which was 8 hours long before all was said and done. For one of them the other person is waiting to find out about funding, but would offer her a job if they get it. The other one she is having a second interview for on Thursday, which sounds very promising. My work is going OK, except that I don't have a desk, computer, phone or project yet. However, I am getting paid and that makes it bearable. The people there are all very nice although I am yet to meet an American there as its all Europeans and Asians. We had an exciting time at the DMV sitting our driving tests. We both got 100% because we knew such things as while its ok to smoke, hit your child or watch TV while you drive, you must never do them all at once. That's just dangerous. The other night we went out for dinner to San Diego's Little India district for a curry buffet with some people from work. It was a typical American stripmall but it was all Indian shops, banks, restaurants and there was even a temple in the mall. The weather a couple of weekends ago was unbearable. It was 37 degrees in our apartment and our air conditioner is more of a noise generator than a cooling device so we had to buy a fan. We went to the zoo, which is very cool, to get out of the stifling heat of the apartment. You can get a year's pass for two people for $80 which is a bargain, considering its $35 each for one day.

Polar bears love carrots. Seriously.

Grizzly bear cubs that were removed from their mother because she was "teaching them bad habits." If only it was so easy with humans.

A melanistic jaguar peruses the assembled human buffet.

Tamsin's favourite, the cuddling lynx

Next time: 4th of July and Major League Baseball.
